More than 80 years ago, the University of Minnesota’s physical therapy program was first accredited, offering a certificate in physical therapy. Since then, the program has been continually accredited, awarding degrees to more than 2,500 alumni. On November 2, 2021, with the support and efforts of our faculty, staff, students, alumni, community partners, as well as the department, Medical School, and University administrators, our accreditation was successfully reaffirmed in a ten-year full review cycle.
Our program is well-known and respected in the physical therapy community for delivering innovative education and producing scholarly therapists. Highlights of note include our commitment to rural communities through diverse clinical experiences, and our robust interprofessional education program. Through extensive faculty scholarship, we ensure that U of Minnesota Doctor of Physical Therapy learners are immersed in research that drives the profession forward.

Graduates from our program are highly sought after – we had a graduate employment rate of 100 percent over the last five years. We maintain a 100 percent pass rate on the National Physical Therapy Licensure Exam and exceed testing benchmarks year after year.
This reaffirmation occurred amidst the onset of a global pandemic and during a time of civil unrest in the local community and beyond. Congratulations to all of those involved in this tremendous effort and important accomplishment. As we reflect on our journey these past few years, it is with deep appreciation for everyone we have had the privilege of working with along the way.

Thank you to our University of Minnesota community — cheers to the next 10 years!
