Evaluating Body Awareness and Body Image Scales in Healthy Adults

Purpose:

The purpose of this study is to evaluate body awareness and body image scales.

Why:

Mindfulness and other mind and body approaches are increasingly being used for treating chronic pain or other health problems. Body awareness and body image play a role in this.

Therefore, we need to know how healthy adults perceive ‘body awareness’ and ‘body image’ so that we can compare these results with people who have pain. We also want to make sure that these assessments measure what they are supposed to measure.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do researchers hope to learn?

We would like to know how healthy adults perceive ‘body awareness’ and ‘body image’ so that we can compare these results with people who have pain. We also want to make sure that these assessments measure what they are supposed to measure.

How will participating in this study help?

The information from this study may help other people in the future. Mindfulness and other mind and body approaches are increasingly being used for treating chronic pain or other health problems. Body awareness and body image play a role in this. Researchers sometimes use body awareness and body image scales to measure progress in patients with pain or other health problems. Therefore, we need to know how healthy adults perceive ‘body awareness’ and ‘body image’ so that we can compare these results with people who have pain.

Do I have to take a break from other activities/therapies in order to participate?

No, this is a one-time online assessment. You can take this assessment on your computer wherever you like at your convenience.

What are the characteristics of participants you are looking for?

Adults (18+ years of age) who are able to understand English and follow English instructions are invited to participate. We will not recruit participants who are pregnant, who are not English speaking, or who have a self-reported mental or psychiatric condition.

You will be asked to fill in a questionnaire about demographic information, general health and nine questionnaires on body awareness and body image.

How will I benefit from participating?

There may be no direct benefit to participating in this study other than that you might learn things about yourself or have you ask questions you would not have thought of.

Does this cost money to participate?

There is no charge to participate.
