Metabolic Rate in Individuals with Facioscapulohumeral Muscular Dystrophy (FSHD)
FSHD is a type of muscular dystrophy that affects over 25,000 individuals in the US alone. Changes in the skeletal muscle of adults with FSHD may lead to changes in their resting metabolic rate and tolerance to exercise. For this study, we are using indirect calorimetry to measure metabolic rate at rest in individuals with FSHD and compare those findings to individuals without FSHD. We are also assessing cardiorespiratory fitness levels in adults with FSHD.
