The Department of Surgery Welcomes Dr. Javier Navarro Rueda

The Department of Surgery is pleased to welcome Javier Navarro Rueda, PhD, as an Assistant Professor in the Visible Heart® Laboratories at the University of Minnesota.

Dr. Navarro Rueda earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia. He completed his PhD in Bioengineering at the University of Maryland as a Fulbright Fellow, followed by postdoctoral training at the University of Rochester, Universidad de los Andes, and Fundación Cardioinfantil – Instituto de Cardiología.

Before joining the University of Minnesota, Dr. Navarro Rueda worked in teaching and research roles at Universidad de los Andes, the University of Maryland, the University of Rochester, and Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, where he also served as Director of the Mechanical Engineering Program.

His research focuses on cardiovascular biomedical devices, regenerative medicine, and 3D technologies for surgical planning and education. He has contributed to the development of synthetic 3D-printed cardiovascular models, vascular grafts, regenerative scaffolds, and bioreactors to better understand tissues and devices.
