The Division of Critical & Acute Care Surgery Welcomes Dr. Todd Costantini
The Department of Surgery welcomes Todd Costantini, MD, as the new Division Chief of Critical & Acute Care Surgery and Vice Chair for Clinical Quality.
Dr. Costantini, a University of Minnesota Medical School alumnus, completed his General Surgery Residency and Trauma/Surgical Critical Care Fellowship at UC San Diego. During his time at UC San Diego Health, he held the position of Trauma Medical Director and developed a national reputation for efforts in trauma research and protocol development. He previously chaired the AAST Multi-institutional Trials Committee, and currently serves on the Scientific Advisory Council for the Coalition for National Trauma Research (CNTR) and leads the Trauma Protocol workgroup for the COT. He is also an Associate Editor for the Journal of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery.
Dr. Costantini's translational research focuses on the biology of human inflammation after injury, with a clinical focus on optimizing venous thromboembolism (VTE) prophylaxis for trauma patients. He has published over 190 peer-reviewed articles, leads an NIH-funded research program and will contribute to the University of Minnesota Translational Center for Resuscitative Trauma Care.
