Each year, The Academies for Excellence seeks to identify the most distinguished scientists, educators, and clinicians within our ranks. Members are elected to lifetime membership in one of four academies: clinical practice, health research, scholarship of teaching and learning, or team science.

We are proud to share that two Department of Surgery professors are 2025 inductees to the Academies for Excellence.

Professor in the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Rosemary Kelly, MD, is a 2025 inductee of the Academy for Excellence in Clinical Practice. The Academy for Excellence in Clinical Practice serves as the highest recognition of excellence in the practice or provision of clinical care by a full-time faculty member.

Professor in the Division of Surgical Oncology, Todd Tuttle, MD, MS, is a 2025 inductee of the Academy for Excellence in the Scholarship of Teaching & Learning. The Academy for Excellence in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning recognizes faculty who have demonstrated exceptional scholarly contributions to advance learning in their schools and across academic programs in the University of Minnesota.

The names and photos of this year's recipients will be added to the Academies for Excellence wall plaques in Moos Tower, and a recognition event to celebrate the 2025 inductees is forthcoming.

Congratulations, Dr. Kelly and Dr. Tuttle, on this exceptional honor!
