
In the News: Dr. Vanessa Humphreville Discusses Organ Donation and Kidney Disease on Patient Innovations Podcast
Dr. Vanessa Humphreville, an associate professor in the Division of Transplantation and director of Living Kidney Donation at the University of Minnesota Medical School, was recently featured on the Patient Innovations Podcast. In this episode, Dr. Humphreville joined former Minnesota Viking Ben Williams and Kate Kishish from LifeSource MN/DAK to discuss critical issues surrounding kidney disease and the organ donation process.
During the conversation, Dr. Humphreville discussed the challenges faced by patients with kidney disease and the crucial role of organ donation in providing life-saving transplants. She stated, "That's our goal in the end—we want them to have a successful kidney transplant that's going to last them as long as possible, keep them off dialysis, and return them to a good quality of life." She also highlighted how individuals with disabilities or organ system impairments can still contribute as donors, showcasing the potential of the transplant community.
