Minneapolis, Minnesota — The University of Minnesota Department of Urology is proud to share that adjunct professor Martin A. Koyle, MD, MSc, MMgmt, MBA(cert.), FAAP, FACS, FRCSC, FRCS (Eng.), has been elected to serve as the next Chairperson-Elect of the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Urology (SOU) Executive Committee. His term will begin on November 1, 2025, and extends through October 31, 2026, at which time he will ascend to the Chairperson role for one additional year.

“This is an exceptional honour,” said Dr. Koyle. “The American Academy of Pediatrics was the first major organization to recognize pediatric urology as a specialty in the 1950s. It is meaningful for me to be able to work for and with my pediatric urology colleagues, but also to expand that breadth, by working with my non-pediatric urology colleagues in areas of education and research, as well as advocacy and policy. I feel that our role as a section within the APP is not only to provide an educational and research venue for our colleagues, but more importantly, it is an organization where interaction amongst general pediatric providers, specialists, and subspecialists need to be furthered in order to enhance the healthcare of all children.”

Dr. Koyle has been active in the SOU since he became a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics in 1986. Most recently, he has served on the Advocacy/Health Policy Committee.

“Healthcare is complex, and pediatric urology concerns represent only a speck in the vast spectrum of other issues that are significant in the ever-changing environment,” said Dr. Koyle. “So with a 40-year career as a leader, I feel that advocacy and policy initiatives are at the top of my list.”

Dr. Koyle is a pediatric urologist and healthcare advocate with over 40 years of experience in the field. He is currently an adjunct professor at the University of Minnesota Medical School and Associate Editor for the Journal of Pediatric Urology. He is professor emeritus at the University of Toronto, Temerity Faculty of Medicine & Institute of Health Policy, Management, & Evaluation (IHPME). He has previously served as President of both the Society of Pediatric Urologists (SPU) and the American Association of Pediatric Urologists (AAPU). Additionally, Dr. Koyle is a past recipient of the AUA Residents and Fellows Committee Teaching Award, and has received Graduate Medical Education Clinical Teaching Awards from both the University of Minnesota and McGill University in Montreal.
