A cross-Atlantic connection
A new mini-grant initiative through the Norwegian Centennial Chair program (NOCC) is sparking fresh, cross-Atlantic research collaborations between the University of Minnesota and Norwegian institutions. Overseeing the initiative is Distinguished McKnight University Professor Claudia Schmidt-Dannert, who bridges international networks while also serving as a Professor in BMBB. Professor Mike Smanski is also representing the Department as one of the grant recipients, co-leading an initiative to evaluate genetically modified black soldier flies as a sustainable, nutrient-rich food source for aquaculture. Ultimately, these targeted seed grants serve to foster long-term partnerships and help transition innovative laboratory biotechnology into real-world solutions.
