The Center for the Art of Medicine cultivates curiosity and creativity in medical education and practice.

Mission and vision

The University of Minnesota Medical School’s Center for the Art of Medicine (CFAM) strives to elevate the role of the arts and humanities in medical education and practice, in order to nurture curiosity and creativity, promote diversity, deepen empathy, develop professionalism, and foster resilience in physicians and physicians-in-training.

Storytelling in Medicine
Storytelling in Medicine

CFAM recognizes that stories are one of the most powerful ways for us to connect, empathize, and heal. The Storytelling in Medicine Program provides time, space, and techniques for those interested in becoming more effective storytellers through storytelling events, as well as courses and workshops for med students, residents, and faculty.

Hippocrates Cafe
Hippocrates Cafe

Hippocrates Cafe started as a live, one-hour show placing healthcare in context through story and song. CFAM expanded upon this work to form Hippocrates Cafe Productions, partnering with Twin Cities Public Television to create Art + Medicine—a series of films exploring healthcare through story, song, and the arts.
