The Center of American Indian and Minority Health co-hosts events with the American Indian Community Housing Organization to bring cultural events and activities to both our Native medical students and the Gimaaji families at AICHO.

Grades K-6

We provide activity books for youth in grades K–3 and 4–6. These books feature fun games, puzzles, and coloring pages to help children learn about science, wellness, math, and health professions. Ojibwe culture and language give the activities special meaning.

Books are currently available and shipped free of cost.

Denfeld After School Happenings (DASH)

The Center of American Indian and Minority Health provides after school mentoring/tutoring through the Denfeld After School Happenings, part of the SD 709 Community Schools Initiative. Every Monday during the school year, Medical students and UMD AISES students provide after school tutoring at Denfeld High School. For more information, please contact Mangan Golden at goldenm@d.umn.edu

We’d like to extend a special miigwech to Harvey Thompson. In creating the activity books, Thompson provided valuable guidance regarding language and culture. Credit also goes to Nett Lake Elementary School teachers, Summer Opacich and Loretta Rankila, who assisted with developing activities, and to Staci Drouillard for her wonderful artwork.
