University of Minnesota Institute on Infectious Diseases Begins National Search for its Inaugural Director

As the newly-launched University of Minnesota Institute on Infectious Diseases (UMIID) continues to grow in its offerings to the U of M, we are beginning the search for a director to lead the institute and pursue the opportunities it holds for the State of Minnesota and beyond.

Through its mission, UMIID aims to develop innovative solutions to emerging infections with the vision of bringing investigators from different backgrounds together to provide a multi-disciplinary and comprehensive approach to addressing diseases of pandemic or epidemic potential.

To facilitate the institute’s mission, areas included in the UMIID director’s purview will be:

  • Oversight of UMIID’s research programs

  • Recruitment of faculty to join the institute

  • Development of UMIID’s local and global identity as a frontrunner in infectious disease research

  • Engagement and collaboration with internal and industry-leading infectious disease partners

The UMIID director also will be eligible to hold the rank of Professor in the U of M Medical School and will be regarded as a mentor to students, faculty and staff across the Medical School and other U of M programs involved in the institute’s mission.
