Military Medic to Medical School Program

The University of Minnesota Medical School and College of Continuing and Professional Education are working to meet the needs of Minnesota communities. About 6% of Minnesota’s population is made up of veterans. At the same time, highly skilled and experienced combat medics are completing their military service and thinking about a potential future as a physician.
Opportunities exist from day one to utilize this experience while at the same time providing program components to ensure that your potential is maximized.

The Military Medic to Medical School Program (MM2MS) was designed to value the experience gained by combat medics and ensure that in your transition you remain a valuable member of the health care provider community.

Individualized Premedical Advising:

We acknowledge that students entering this program will come with a variety of educational backgrounds and needs. Experienced academic advisors will meet with all students at the beginning of the program as well as periodically to ensure that educational needs are being met. This includes completion of premedical prerequisites for the University of Minnesota Medical School and/or additional coursework that is needed to satisfy degree requirements and maximize success in medical school coursework.
Students who have already achieved a BA or BS may need additional prerequisites.

MCAT preparation will be provided by the program

Through our cohort model:
Students will take coursework throughout various schools in the University. The program itself lives within the Medical School and has dedicated staff primarily working with our cohort group. A 1-credit seminar course focused on making the transition to medical school is required each semester for
cohort members.

Opportunities to work with physicians from day one, to gain experience in civilian medicine and to share knowledge gained while working as a combat medic.
