Student Success and Community Engagement
Mission Statement:
The Microbiology, Immunology, and Cancer Biology (MICaB) program Student Success Committee (SSC) is committed to building a scholarly community where everyone is valued, respected, and empowered to flourish. We strive to create spaces where every voice, experience, and perspective is welcomed and celebrated. Through intentional collaboration, outreach opportunities, and a culture grounded in mutual support, we prepare graduate students to lead with integrity, empathy, and an enduring commitment to the well-being of all.
We are dedicated to supporting all students in the MICaB program throughout their time at the university. We will uphold the faculty and student code of conduct and provide a safe environment for individuals who bring forth misconduct claims.
Given the dynamic nature of our program, the MICaB Student Success Committee's mission statement will be reviewed biennially by students and faculty to ensure it is current and reflective of our training and educational goals.
Some examples of our community in action include:
- Peer Mentor Program: pairs existing MICaB students with incoming students to provide support, guidance, and connection within the MICaB program
- Scientific outreach events: to introduce young students in the community to science and research
- Career panels: showcasing the different career paths within medicine and biomedical research
- Virtual graduate school application workshops: assists applicants in writing a strong application for graduate school and preparation for interviews
- Public newsletter: to increase awareness of the MICaB community and relevant issues
- Public service activities: to support initiatives within academia, the University, program, and the greater Twin Cities community of importance to the MICaB community
