2/19/2020 - Resident Funeral Director

POSITION SUMMARY: This a training level position responsible for removing deceased persons, the embalming process, service layouts and to work funeral services. These duties will be performed with the highest level of customer service, empathy, and confidentiality for clients and staff.

REPORTS TO: Prep Room Supervisor and Director of Operations & Personnel

(A mentor will be assigned to monitor and ensure a complete work experience.)

RESPONSIBILITIES (duties include but are not limited to):
 Remove deceased persons, embalming, cosmetize and layout;
 Remove deceased persons at night-time, occasionally embalming after 4:30 pm. Utilizing the cooler and performing embalming services during the daytime hours is preferred. The Prep Room Supervisor will advise on evening embalming/cooler usage needs.
 Perform scheduled preparation room maintenance;
 Ensure equipment is maintained;
 Transport bodies to the crematory;
 Assist with some funeral services and calling hours;
 Type and file death certificates;
 Create a schedule for washing and vacuuming Company removal/transfer vehicles;
 Assist with building maintenance (i.e., prepare viewing rooms for calling hours, wash cars, etc.);
 Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND SKILLS:
 Must be a Resident Funeral Director;
 Must possess a New York State Residency Green Card;
 Must possess clean, valid driver’s license;
 Must be able to proficiently and competently perform the above responsibilities;
 Must posses the ability to use funeral related software, such as MIMS;
 Must possess basic computer skills (i.e., MS Office);
 Must possess the ability to perform heavy lifting and endure demanding physical work.
 Must be willing and able to work a flexible work schedule.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: No supervisory responsibilities.

WORK SCHEDULE/ON-CALL:
The weekly range of hours can be from 35-62 hours with the average of approximately 42-44 hours per week. The current ‘on call’ schedule requires being on-call two (2) week nights and every other weekend.
One (1) week day per week is a scheduled day off and every other weekend is off. Any requests to switch an ‘on call’ assignment for time off must be submitted to the Prep Room Supervisor and approved by the Director of Operations & Personnel. These schedule requirements are subject to change at any time.

NOTE: Upon completion of the residency requirements, the incumbent may be considered for regular employment.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Knowledge Level: Associate's or Bachelor’s degree; Must have the appropriate Minnesota state funeral licensure OR working toward a state license or the ability to reciprocate license from another state
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Computer knowledge and familiarity with Microsoft software
  • Be able to take night calls;
  • Ability to manage a caseload while creating an extraordinary customer experience.
  • Knowledge of crematory & cremation regulations or willing to be trained
