Who we are: Gearty-Delmore is a family-owned firm that has been a good training ground for in-coming and current mortuary science students for many years--in fact, we have been experiencing 2nd generation students (children of former students) working with us. We offer great participation of the students with daily work at the funeral chapels and welcome their participation working visitations, funerals and interacting with the families and faith communities we serve. 

Where we are: Gearty-Delmore is located in Robbinsdale, Plymouth and St. Louis Park suburbs. In addition to serving these communities, we reach out to the whole metro area to assist families in need and offer our service to all.

Requirements & Qualifications:  Our requirements for this position include good people skills, willingness to learn, hard worker and an openness to learn new aspects of everything funeral-related. Our qualifications would be a current student or soon to be enrolled student at the Program of Mortuary Science.  The night attendant position would include evening/weekend coverage of phones at one of our chapels and part of a transfer rotation/schedule for weekends and one or two nights during the week.  Normal chapel duties include visitations, services, normal cleaning and meeting and greeting people.  We also have a live-in position available at this time.  Responsibilities would be the night attendant duties along with over night phone duty from the living quarters on site.

Compensation & Benefits:

As a night attendant, you would be paid an hourly wage while on duty with the opportunity to earn more for each transfer you assist on.  For the live-in position, we have housing available on site and a salary; housing and utilities would be included. Hours worked outside the salaried hours will also be compensated.

Compensation is based on experience. This would be an hourly position, therefore overtime is time and a half.
Our director schedule is the traditional 10 on / 4 off, allowing for a work-life balance with working only every other weekend. On call shifts are around 3 times per month.

The main work schedule is 4 days per week, m-f with rotating week days off, 7hrs per day, 9am-4pm.  The on-call rotation involves being on-call 1/3 of the weekends (sharing with another funeral director), and being on call about 2 weeknights per month (and on-call 1 holiday per year).

Requirements & Qualifications:  A qualified candidate will be enrolled or have recently graduated from an accredited mortuary science program, hold or be able to obtain a Wisconsin funeral director apprentice license, hold a valid state driver’s license in good standing with an acceptable driving record, be able to lift, push and pull up to 100 pounds, be willing and eager to be involved in all aspects of funeral service and hold oneself in a professional manner. Work schedule includes every third weekend and being on-call every third night from 5:00 pm until 8:00 am the following morning.

Compensation & Benefits: Our competitive starting wage for an apprentice funeral director/embalmer is $16.50 per hour with increases based on job performance.  Health and dental insurance, paid vacation, and profit sharing are included in our benefit program.
