Angela Nietz, PhD (she/her) is a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Minnesota Medical School. She began her education at St. Catherine University in St. Paul, Minnesota, majoring in Biology and minoring in Chemistry. After graduating, she moved to Birmingham, Alabama, to pursue a PhD in Neuroscience. Her thesis research focused on the study of spillover neurotransmission in cerebellar interneurons and how it may expand the processing power of the cerebellum.
Her research continued to focus on the cerebellum after her PhD, studying the neurophysiology of cerebellar diseases using mouse models at the University of Minnesota–Twin Cities. Following her postdoctoral research, she accepted a faculty position at the University of Minnesota–Duluth, where her research investigates neural communication between the cerebellum and neocortex.
