Research in the Department of Biomedical Sciences is dedicated to the discovery of mechanisms underlying human disease, with a focus on neuroscience and mental health, particularly in rural, underserved, and Native American communities.

Our research strives to better understand neurological disorders, such as autism, Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia, and the brain mechanisms behind drug addiction. Scientists in our multidisciplinary department also focus on cancer, parasitology, Lyme Disease, immunology, and cardiovascular disease, with the ultimate goal of developing new therapies to save and improve patients’ lives.
