Evaluation Capacity Building Toolkit

The University of Minnesota MSTP received NIH supplemental funding to develop program evaluation techniques for the improvement of both program administration and the student training experience. Faculty, students, and staff worked with an external evaluator who guided the MSTP through a series of Evaluation Capacity Building (ECB) activities.

The general aims of the ECB activities were to build the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of organizational members, develop the sustainability of rigorous evaluative practices, and provide the resources and motivations to engage in ongoing evaluative work. These aims were explored through the use of Logic Models and Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) analysis to create an evaluation plan for the University of Minnesota MSTP, with a commitment to embed equitable approaches as an integral aspect of evaluation capacity practices.

This effort has resulted in an improved evaluation infrastructure for the University of Minnesota MSTP and an ECB toolkit to support evaluation efforts of training programs.
