Congratulations to University of Minnesota Medical School, Duluth Campus, student Koushik Paul, recipient of the 2022 Medical Student Leadership Award from the Minnesota Academy of Family Physicians.

Koushik is known as a leader and advocate. His nominators describe him as brilliant, dedicated and engaged.

Robin Michaels, PhD, Paul’s advisor, had this to say: “Koushik has been a leader in his class, tackling difficult issues of racism and microaggressions on campus as the class elected DEI representative. He is also a leader in the community, organizing workshops for students, so they may better understand the challenges faced by marginalized populations in Minnesota.”

Paul has held a variety of leadership roles on campus (and in the community), including serving as a DEI representative for his medical school class, a medical student tutor, and as the Research & Education Director for the HOPE Clinic for the uninsured in Duluth. Among numerous honors and scholarships he’s received, Paul was most recently awarded the Jim Boulger, PhD, Endowed Scholarship for medical students from the University of Minnesota in 2022
