How Biomedical Researchers started a National Program in Wastewater Surveillance?

Although looking at infectious pathogens in wastewater is not a novel idea, back in 2020 Drs. Glenn Simmons Jr. and Richard G. Melvin, UMN researchers, launched a research project to detect COVID-19 in wastewater. Mpls/St. Paul Magazine interviewed the researchers and Dr. Timothy Schacker, vice dean for research at the University of Minnesota, to learn more about the UMN-led research project.
