The Department of Anesthesiology is excited to welcome Dr. Michael Avidan to the University of Minnesota as the keynote speaker of the 11th Annual Van Bergen Lectureship. Dr. Avidan will speak on, "General Anesthesia: Innocent Oblivion or Neurotoxic."

Dr. Michael Avidan is an accomplished investigator in perioperative outcomes research, including large clinical trials. His major contributions have been in the prevention of intraoperative awareness; postoperative neurologic outcomes; and tracking health and well-being of surgical patients.

Dr. Avidan received his MBBCh in 1991 from the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa. He completed his anesthesiology residency in 1994 and anesthesiology and intensive care certification in 1996. He has been a faculty member of the Department of Anesthesiology, Washington University in St. Louis since 1999.
