Safe Brain Initiative - EEG Bootcamp

We are excited to invite participants to the Safe Brain Initiative (SBI) EEG Bootcamp for anesthesiology and critical care clinicians. With EEG monitoring becoming more widely available, we now have a powerful tool to optimize anesthetic dosing and reduce the risk of over- or under-dosage and side effects. However, any device is only as good as its user. This hands-on course provides a practical introduction to EEG monitoring in anesthesia and critical care, equipping you with the skills to enhance patient care.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, learners should be able to:

  • Explain the fundamental principles of EEG setup, including electrode placement, impedance management, hardware configurations, and filter settings, to ensure accurate signal acquisition and interpretation.
  • Recognize and differentiate EEG artifacts from true neurophysiological signals, implementing strategies to minimize noise and improve signal accuracy in clinical settings.
  • Describe how common anesthetic agents and perioperative medications alter EEG signatures and apply this knowledge to adjust anesthetic management accordingly.
  • Compare age-related EEG patterns in pediatric and geriatric patients, identifying burst suppression phenomena and other age-specific considerations in anesthetic management.
  • Analyze how underlying pathophysiological conditions, such as oxygen delivery, temperature and brain injury, influence frontal EEG patterns and apply this knowledge to refine anesthetic care.

This conference is ideal for anesthesiology and critical care clinicians interested in EEG. All levels of EEG experience are welcome, including those with no previous experience. Residents and fellows would also benefit from the subject matter of the conference.

This workshop provides AMA PRA Category 1 Credits/ABA MOCA credits.
