Scholarships and Fellowships

Undergraduate Scholarships

The College of Biological Sciences (CBS) offers a variety of college-wide and major-specific scholarships for continuing students.

Two scholarships were established specifically for undergraduate microbiology majors:

Patrick Cleary Scholarship

Dr. P. Patrick Cleary joined the faculty of the Department of Microbiology in 1972. He retired in 2013 but his interest in the molecular bases of streptococcal disease continues. Dr. Cleary established this scholarship to offer support to students who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in coursework and laboratory research.

Graduate Fellowships

Several University-wide scholarships are available for graduate students in the biomedical sciences.

The Department of Microbiology and Immunology offers one department-specific fellowship:

DENNIS W. WATSON FELLOWSHIP

The Dennis W. Watson Fellowship recognizes outstanding scholarship by graduate students in microbiology and immunology. It was established in 1984 by former students of Dr. Watson when he retired from his position as Regents’ Professor and Head of the Department of Microbiology. Applications are solicited each summer from fourth year students whose advisers are faculty members in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology.
