Community Education
One of our primary goals is to make scientifically-sound information accessible to the public, translating sexual and gender health science for the masses. We believe our scientific findings should not be held captive behind an academic paywall. Our faculty strive to do this through engagement with the community, providing expert commentary to media outlets, or writing for open access.
What actually happens when a person orgasms? How do I find accurate information about sex for my kids? What about for me? How do you maintain sexual desire in long-term relationships? Am I normal? These are just a few of the incredibly common questions that people have about sex and sexual health. And where do people go to get answers? Well, the Eli Coleman Institute for Sexual and Gender Health invites you to Sex Science Happy Hour, with world-class answers to your questions about sex. Join your host, sex and relationship expert Dr. Kristen Mark, as she brings the science to your burning questions!
Each Sex Science Happy Hour is hosted at a different Twin Cities brewery, and past guests have included author and podcaster Dan Savage, author Peggy Orenstein, sex therapist Dr. Joe Kort, and comedian and sex educator Khadijah Cooper, as well as several ISGH faculty.

2SLGBTQIA+ Intergenerational Mingle
The 2SLGBTQIA+ Intergenerational Mingle is a queer, intergenerational community-building space. We host various structured and unstructured activities, such as speed friending and arts and crafts, for the queer community to connect across generations while learning how to get involved with local organizations to continue building intergenerational community locally. We are continuing to host a series of intergenerational conversations that participants will work together to turn into an art project. Through these events, we have seen intergenerational connections grow within our local 2SLGBTQIA+ community, and we hope to continue this work to decrease isolation among queer people, particularly aging community members.
ISGH Advances in Sexual and Gender Health Seminar
The faculty of the Eli Coleman Institute for Sexual and Gender Health (ISGH) invite you to explore the latest in sexual health research. ISGH faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and research collaborators present their work at our monthly ISGH Advances in Sexual and Gender Health Seminar. ISGH Advances in Sexual and Gender Health Seminars meet the requirements of the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT) and are approved for 1 CE credit. These CE credits may be applied toward AASECT certification and renewal of certification.
