Dermatology Residency

The Dermatology residency program consists of three years of Dermatology specialty training after a preliminary or transitional year. The University of Minnesota Dermatology program provides rotations at three teaching sites, allowing trainees to explore different practice styles, treat diverse patient populations, and encounter a variety of Dermatologic disorders. A robust allergy, procedural, pediatric and dermatopathology curriculum complement the medical Dermatology foundation. This hands-on training provides you with an exceptional education that will prepare you for any aspect of Dermatology practice.
The program is based at the Minneapolis campus of the University of Minnesota, and residents rotate through the Dermatology services of the following sites:
- M Health Fairview Clinics and Surgical Center
- Minneapolis VA Healthcare System
- Hennepin Healthcare
- M Health University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital
- M Health Fairview Maple Grove
Curriculum
In addition to clinical experience in a variety of settings, our curriculum includes:
- Grand Rounds series in which residents present clinical cases, describe Dermatologic related findings, outline a differential diagnosis, and discuss treatment plans
- Clinical lectures led by University, visiting, and community-based faculty
- Invited guest speakers
- Web-based lecture series
- Basic science lectures
- Journal clubs in which residents review and critique articles with faculty
- Didactic and hands-on teaching sessions in Procedural Dermatology
- Structured textbook reviews
