Career Development Seminars
Seminars, Workshops and 1-on-1 Sessions
Career planning includes active job searching, applying for postdoc positions, looking for roles in industry etc., exploring what careers were possible, and developing needed transferable skills through University opportunities as well as outside academia. Graduate student and postdoctoral scholar trainees are thus encouraged to participate in the workshops and seminars to bolster their knowledge of career opportunities, increase self-awareness, explore career interests and maximize their success outcomes
To support the career development goals of graduate student and postdoctoral trainees, workshops and seminars are provided to learners multiple times through the Fall and Spring semesters. Workshops include support on: careers for biomedical scientists, how to convert a CV-to-resume, gaining familiarity with various job search tools, and online social networking, among other offerings. Feedback helps identify need for more career planning support
To assess the extent to which graduate students are being supported in their career exploration/development journey and where the Graduate School and Medical Schools programs could improve their support and services, we have collected and analyzed data from surveys of current Ph.D. and Master’s students (2022) and a survey of Ph.D. alumni (2011-2021). Information gathered helps the Medical School to develop better resources and support for our learners.
