IEM is proud to provide support for various fellowship opportunities to eligible students in University of Minnesota degree programs.

The Augustine MD/MS Fellowship recognizes outstanding students who are participating in the MD/MS Dual-Degree Program through the University of Minnesota's Medical School and Department of Biomedical Engineering. This program will  prepare new physicians to be opinion leaders and bridge builders between medicine and engineering in the evolving biomedical engineering/healthcare industry.

The Walter Barnes Lang Fellowship supports graduate students traveling to research meetings to deliver presentations based on their research. Recipients of the $1000 award are graduate students at the University of Minnesota who are engaged in research related to engineering in medicine, and who are advised by IEM members. Applicants are evaluated on several criteria, including their record of academic achievement, the quality of their research plan, their demonstrated commitment to engineering in medicine, and demonstrated leadership. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the academic year.

This fellowship awards outstanding graduate students with interdisciplinary dissertation topics who would benefit from interaction with faculty at one of the University's interdisciplinary research centers or institutes. IEM is pleased to be one of the sites for the UMN Graduate School's Interdisciplinary Doctoral Fellowships, which are located in the University's interdisciplinary research centers and institutes.

Mid-career PhD students, of IEM members, engaged in interdisciplinary research should check with mentors and directors early to ensure a good match.

Contact Katherine Lindsay if you have any questions about the IEM endorsement process.
