Visual Rehabilitation Center

Helping you make the most of your remaining sight.

The Visual Rehabilitation Center offers services for people of all ages who have decreased vision that cannot be corrected with ordinary glasses, medical or surgical procedures. We assist people with low vision learn to use their remaining sight successfully in the home, community, and in school and the workplace.

  • multiple sclerosis
  • head injury
  • stroke
  • other low-vision conditions

Treatments we offer

  • Visual Functional Assessment by Optometry and/or refraction for eyeglass prescription when indicated
  • An assessment by an occupational therapist
  • Instruction in visual strategies to successfully use remaining vision
  • Training in the use of optical devices such as magnifiers, telescopes and reading glasses to better see detail for reading, writing or watching television
  • Training in strategies to more easily perform activities of daily living such as reading bills, writing checks and preparing meals
  • Training in the use of state-of-the-art technology such as closed-circuit televisions, computer programs and electronic reading programs to aid those with vision loss
  • Assessment of home or workplace to identify barriers to success
  • Recommendations for lighting and adaptations to increase safety, efficiency and independence
