New Physician Leader for M Health Fairview Pain Management Programs in Neurosciences Service Line

Assistant Professor Clarence Shannon, MD has been appointed as the M Health Fairview physician leader for Pain Medicine in the Neurosciences Service Line.

He will continue serving as Academic Chief of Chronic Pain Management in the Department of Anesthesiology and as the Medical Director for Chronic Pain at the M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center.

Dr. Shannon received his medical degree from Pritzker School of Medicine at the University of Chicago. He completed his residency at the State University of New York Health Science Center at Brooklyn and a fellowship in pain medicine at Emory University Affiliated Hospitals in Atlanta, Georgia.

He now focuses his work on non-opioid treatments through alternative medications, interventional procedures and/or pain-control devices that enable full engagement in exercise and neurobehavioral counseling.

“We are thrilled that Dr. Shannon will be able to use his expertise and experience that he gained while working at Emory University and Walter Reed National Military Medical Center where he practiced both acute and chronic pain in a multi-disciplinary comprehensive practice. We think this background is perfect for growing a new system-based pain medicine practice throughout the M Health Fairview network,” said University of Minnesota Medical School Department of Anesthesiology Head Michael Wall, MD, FCCM.
