U of M Anesthesiologists Featured on Minnesota Monthly’s List of “Top Docs”

Each year, Minnesota Monthly asks licensed physicians in Minnesota one question, if you or a loved one needed medical care, which doctor would you recommend? Their answers go on to create the annual list of Minnesota’s Top Doctors.
This year's list features four University of Minnesota anesthesiologists, Kumar Belani, MBBS, MS, FACA, FAAP; Jacob Hutchins, MD; Tjorvi Perry, MD, MMSC and Clarence Shannon IV, MD.
Dr. Belani is an anesthesiologist with M Health Fairview. He established the Medical School’s division of pediatric anesthesia and the pediatric intensive care unit at University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital. He also continues to further his understanding of the science of pain relief and currently is focused on researching cyanide.
Dr. Hutchins is also an anesthesiologist with M Health Fairview. He’s worked to develop the Perioperative and Interventional Pain Service on the East Bank of the University of Minnesota Medical Center campus and will be doing the same on the West Bank campus and pediatric hospital. He has done extensive research into the clinical effects of both TAP blocks and paravertebral blocks on patients post operative pain control opioid use, and length of stay.
Dr. Perry is an anesthesiologist who provides evidence-directed care of the highest value to patients undergoing cardiac and thoracic surgery. Dr. Perry sees patients at M Health Fairview Clinics and Surgery Center - Minneapolis. His clinical interests include automation of clinical decision-making, digital transformation to improve care delivery and patient safety and provider wellness.
Dr. Shannon is an assistant professor and associate dean of strategy and innovation of the Medical School. He is also the executive medical director of pain management which has resulted in a comprehensive care model that is transforming treatment for patients seeking relief from chronic pain while dramatically reducing the reliance on opioids.
