The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Office of Academic Affiliations selected the Minneapolis VA, under the leadership of Mojca Remskar, MD, PhD, MACM, from the Department of Anesthesiology in the University of Minnesota Medical School, and April Prunty, PhD, RN Chief Nurse and Acting DLO, Education at the Minneapolis VA, as a site for their Advanced Fellowship in Clinical Simulation. Two positions will be created for this fellowship, one being a physician educator and another being an associated health educator.

The Minneapolis VA simulation center will work with the national center of excellence in clinical Simulation Learning, Education and Research Network (SimLEARN) to develop future national leaders in clinical simulation.

“It’s a growing relationship between the Minneapolis VA and SimLEARN, which will lead to innovative, efficient and effective approaches to education with simulation,” Dr. Remskar said.

The fellowship teaches healthcare professionals, who are not traditionally educators, how to teach others using simulation technologies. The program’s intent is to develop healthcare providers who are expert educators utilizing clinical simulation to improve patient safety.
