Dr. Sara Burdash, MD, is a board-certified emergency medicine physician and Medical Director of the Austere Medicine Program within the Translational Center for Resuscitative Trauma Care (TCRTC). She serves as the first National Guard Emergency Medicine Consultant to The Surgeon General of the Army and has more than 20 years of military service. A lieutenant colonel in the Minnesota National Guard, she is also the Division Surgeon for the 34th Infantry Division, serving as the division’s lead physician and senior medical advisor to the Commanding General for an organization overseeing nine National Guard brigades and more than 23,000 Soldiers across multiple states.
Dr. Burdash previously served as the system medical director for emergency management and security for a large healthcare system. She holds director-level certification in emergency management through Minnesota Homeland Security and Emergency Management and participates in national disaster medicine committees and interest groups. Her academic interests include disaster medicine and preparedness, resilience, and austere, event, and tactical medicine.
