Finances
All admitted students may be eligible for partial financial support in the form of a research assistantship, depending on funding, availability, and placement. These positions typically require 10 hours of work per week at a minimum rate of $27.95 per hour and may qualify for graduate assistant tuition benefits. The PhD students may receive additional support funded by grants held by faculty.
The tuition and fees for students in the program are those of the Graduate School. Learn more about the latest per semester rates for the current academic year. These fees vary depending on whether a student is a resident or non-resident of the state, if they require University health insurance, or whether or not they are international students.
The Graduate School has a page dedicated to additional funding opportunities.
Among the external sources of funding are grants and fellowships sponsored by the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM).
Additional awards and grants are available from the Medical School's Office of Graduate and Professional Studies. This includes the GPS Office Research Grant offered in both the Spring and Fall each year.
Please note that the Medical Physics program does not offer application fee waivers.
The UMN Medical School does provide a limited number of waivers each year. More information can be found on the Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies application page.
