University of Minnesota Medical School
Hometown: Ham Lake, MN
Medical School: University of Minnesota
What attracted you to the U of M for residency? It is geographically close to my family of origin. There is a great historical legacy here in terms of the first bone marrow transplant and other feats of medicine. The pathology training is excellent, with a mixture of AP and CP early on, exposure to academic, government, and community settings, and incredibly robust consensus conferences occurring multiple times a week. I was most struck by the kindness and authenticity of the faculty that went above and beyond anything I had experienced elsewhere in my medical training.
What are your hobbies, or favorite things to do outside of work? Spend time with my husband and baby, lots of walks and bike rides, and reading for fun!
What do you love most about Minnesota? Much like pathology, I think it’s a hidden gem! There is so much to do in and around the Twin Cities such as the MOA, Science Museum, Minnesota and Como Zoos, sporting events, concerts and theater, and tons of delicious restaurants (some favorites are Banh Appetit and Hajime). Traveling not even an hour from the urban center, you hit lake country with lots of water activities, state parks, caves to explore, and much more. It’s the perfect place to both raise a family and have a flourishing career.
