Carla Rothlin, PhD

A native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, Dr. Rothlin studied biochemistry and pharmacy at the University of Buenos Aires, where she also earned a PhD.  She moved to San Diego, California for her postdoctoral studies at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies.  She joined LMP from the Yale University School of Medicine where she was Dorys McConnell Duberg Professor of Immunobiology and Pharmacology, the co-Leader of the Cancer Immunology Program, and the Director of Graduate Studies in Immunobiology.  In 2020, Dr. Rothlin and fellow Argentinian immunologist Dr. Elina Zúñiga of the University of California, San Diego co-founded Global Immunotalks, a weekly seminar series delivered by thought leaders in all areas of fundamental immunology.  In 2025, Rothlin was elected vice-president of the International Union of Immunological Societies (IUIS), a prestigious and influential role within the global immunology community.  She is serving a three-year term.
