Each year, the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research ranks medical schools, departments, and disciplines in the United States. The Department of Neurology at the University of Minnesota's Medical School received the #25 spot in the recently released rankings for 2022. This recognition reflects a rise of 8 ranks from the department's #33 ranking in the previous year.

In addition, the department added $4 million in NIH funding last year resulting in over $11.9 million in total funding in 2022. The rankings across all specialties are based on National Institute of Health (NIH) grant awards.

We will graciously use this recognition to propel our department forward and continue to deliver outstanding education and training, opportunities for research, and world-class patient care.

A special round of applause to those in our department who received the largest amount of funding: Department Head Dr. Vitek and Faculty members Drs. Ashe, Johnson, MacKinnon, Wang, Walk, Lakshminarayan, Carpenter, Pacak, and MacKinnon. These awards fund research in areas ranging from deep brain stimulation to stroke trials to caspase-2 probe compounds.

Congratulations and thank you to all of our incredible faculty and staff who made this possible.
