U of M Researchers Discover a way to Reverse Toxic Effects of DUX4 Gene

Facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD) is a debilitating genetic disease that affects the muscles in the face, upper body, abdomen, and back. It is caused by the misexpression of a gene called
DUX4.
A study published in Sept, 2019 in Science Advances, show how Michael Kyba, PhD, and Darko Bosnakovski, DVM, PhD, both researchers in the Department of Pediatrics at the U of M Medical School, identified an inhibitor that protects cells from toxic effects associated with FSHD in cells and mice.
