Anthony Verkerke, PhD

Dr. Verkerke earned his undergraduate degree in Movement Science from University of Michigan, followed by a PhD in Nutrition and Integrative Physiology from University of Utah, where his research explored the metabolic impact of phospholipid methylation in skeletal muscle. He completed postdoctoral training at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School, where he expanded his focus to mitochondrial biology and the metabolic mechanisms underlying disease pathogenesis. The Verkerke lab investigates the bioenergetic consequences of mitochondrial metabolic pathways in health and disease, with a primary interest in the metabolism of choline.
