Oyedele Adeyi, MD, FCAP, FRCPC, Joins LMP
The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology announces the appointment of Oyedele Adeyi, MD, FCAP, FRCPC to our Anatomic Pathology faculty effective May 31. He comes to the University from the Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology, University of Toronto, where he also served as senior pathologist for the University Health Network's Liver and Multiorgan Transplant Centers, the largest in North America.
Adeyi is an academic anatomic pathologist with expertise in liver and transplantation pathology. His clinical practice covers medical, transplant and oncologic diseases of the liver, with more than 15 years' experience as a hepatobiliary pathology sub-specialist. His primary research interest is in transplant and tumor immunology. During his career he has combined an active clinical service with research and teaching as well as participating locally, nationally, and internationally as a key resource in medical, transplantation and oncologic liver diseases.
Adeyi's research has focused on the interplay between the immune system on the one hand and allogeneic, tumor and viral antigens on the other. In collaboration he has used murine and pig models to study varying aspects of alloimmunity, infections, and tumorigenesis in modified immunologic backgrounds, with a view to understanding how best to utilize the innate and specific immune systems in achieving better outcomes in solid organ transplantation and malignancies, as well as viral infections and organ preservation injury.
Adeyi has authored and coauthored several high impact papers including in Hepatology, Nature Materials, Science Immunology, and the American Journal of Transplantation. He has also trained many pathologists and was an active participant in the University of Toronto's residency and fellowship training programs in gastrointestinal medicine, hepatology, transplantation surgery, and hepatobiliary surgery. He enjoys public speaking and welcomes every opportunity, whether to present research data; lecture graduate and undergraduate students, residents and fellows; or to speak at national and international conferences and other CME events.
Adeyi earned his medical degree at the University of Ibadan College of Medicine, Ibadan, Nigeria and completed a residency in pathology at Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Lagos, Nigeria. Subsequently, he completed a research fellowship in renal pathology at Brigham and Women's Hospital/Harvard Medical School and a residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center / Dartmouth Medical School, followed by fellowship training in liver and transplantation pathology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
