PM&R Chief Resident, Dr. Amanda Day, spearheaded a fun initiative for the community to get to know our residents. The PM&R resident spotlight is on PGY2, Dr. Sarah Mahasin.

Where did you go to medical school?
King Saud University, Saudi Arabia

What drew you to the field of PM&R?
PM&R is a perfect fit for me because it focuses on the patient as a whole. It’s not limited to a certain organ system but involves knowing so much about the neurological and musculoskeletal systems, which are my favorite. Also being in a multidisciplinary team is eye-opening and gives me a different perspective when approaching my patients.

Why the University of Minnesota for your PM&R training?
There are several inpatient and outpatient rotations at multiple sites that help you grow throughout your training to become a well-rounded resident. There are so many opportunities depending on your area of interest such as participating in research, covering a sporting event, or being in a leadership position. Everyone I've worked with is supportive and approachable.

What advice would you give a current applicant hoping to match PM&R?
Trust in yourself and in the process, it will all work out. Be yourself and get to know the program you're applying to. The residency culture is a very important factor as it impacts your experience and how you grow in a program.

What are your favorite things about the Twin Cities thus far?
The beautiful outdoors and the lakes, fall is my favorite season.

What are your interests within PM&R?
Neurorehabilitation, amputee, medical education.
