PM&R Dr. Brionn Tonkin at the 2018 NVWG

The National Veterans Wheelchair Games (NVWG) hosted their 38th annual game in Orlando, FL on July 30 to Aug. 4, 2018. Wheelchair basketball, softball, swimming, and cycling are a few of the 19 different events that serve veterans with spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis, amputations, and other central neurological impairments. These games help veterans increase their independence, activity, and quality of life, acting as part of their rehabilitation process.

This year, Dr. Brionn Tonkin attended the NVWG as a medical provider. The event had over 600 disabled veteran athletes in attendance. According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the NVWG is the largest wheelchair sports rehabilitation event for disabled veterans in the United States.

Rehabilitation may start with medical providers and staff but extend far beyond their care. Lifestyle and support also play a big role during the rehabilitation process. Our providers recognize the importance of their patients' overall well-being and continue to make an impact all throughout the world with their expertise by joining forces with amazing organizations supporting veterans.
