We match 2 residents per year. These residents are embedded within 2 larger residency class groups: Pediatrics and Adult Neurology through their 5 years of training.

Residents complete their adult neurology rotations at 2 of the 4 hospital sites: Hennepin County Medical Center and University of Minnesota Medical Center. The rotations are distributed over the PGY3 -5 years to optimize these educational experiences and include a mix of inpatient, outpatient, and subspeciality experiences. Each experience is designed to provide you with a strong foundation in clinical neurology and the care of adult neurological disorders.

Recently voted one of the happiest places to live, Minnesota has a lot to explore during your training! Whether you enjoy trying out the newest restaurants and breweries, listening to live music, or getting out to hike, bike, ski, or snowshoe the many trails that run through the twin cities there is something for everyone. With time off, trips to the Boundary Waters or North Shore are a popular close get-away option. The cost of living is comparable to other large Midwest cities, and some residents are homeowners.  

At each site, child neurology is a consulting service providing care across the hospital to patients with neurological symptoms and disorders. Each team has a unique set of residents caring for their patients that include: child neurology, adult neurology, pediatrics, and child psychiatry residents at various time points throughout the year. All teams have an attending physician supervising and teaching on a daily basis and many also include advanced practice providers with years of experience in child neurology.

Our mission is to train clinically oriented child neurologists who are ready to meet the needs of patients and their communities in alignment with their personal passions and goals. We pride ourselves on offering a program designed to provide a strong clinical foundation in child neurology with opportunities to individualize the experience so that our trainees can pursue their own interests and goals.  With 4 unique sites, residents will have the opportunity to work within different practice models and with diverse patient populations.  Your education is our number one priority, and our didactic program is designed to provide a strong knowledge base in basic and clinical neurology.  We are excited to welcome you into our child neurology community, with lots of opportunities for exploration, growth, and fun.

During child neurology rotations, all calls are done from home with faculty back-up. During adult neurology rotations, experiences may vary from a weekend call shift to night float experiences paired with adult neurology residents. Call is designed to optimize educational experiences and build resident autonomy.
