Highlights from the 2026 AUA Annual Meeting & Alumni Reception

Faculty, trainees, and medical students from the Department of Urology made an exceptional showing at this year’s American Urological Association Annual Meeting. They delivered plenary talks, presented their research, moderated panels, and led hands-on training sessions, demonstrating the breadth of expertise within the department. 

Among the most notable recognitions, Dr. Martin Koyle, adjunct professor in pediatric urology, received the prestigious Distinguished Contribution Award for his significant contributions in the fields of pediatric urology and renal transplantation. This award reflects his decades of leadership, innovation, and dedication to advancing patient care and surgical excellence. 

The conference stage featured compelling presentations from department faculty. Drs. Michael Borofsky and Joseph Pariser delivered plenary presentations, sharing insights from complex cases. In addition, Dr. Sean Elliott, Dr. Shree Agrawal-Patel, a reconstruction fellow, fifth-year resident Dr. Jonathan Sussman, and fourth-year resident Dr. Bowen Yao presented their work at the podium, further contributing to critical discussions in the field.

Dr. Deepak Agarwal served as course director for the laser enucleation of the prostate (LEP) instructional course, which featured expert-led video demonstrations and discussions of best practices. Over 100 attendees gained valuable, real-world insights and practical strategies to enhance their clinical practice. Dr. Vishnu Ganesan led advanced cystoscopy training for advanced practice providers, offering a standardized, skills-based course focused on office-based transurethral cystoscopy.

The department’s trainees also garnered national attention. Dr. Carla Miguel, endourology fellow, earned honorable mention for her essay presented at the Resident and Fellows Meeting. Third-year medical student Daniel Turin received the Best Poster Award in the IP82 session, underscoring the department’s strong emphasis on fostering early research engagement. In addition to delivering two podium presentations, Dr. Bowen Yao presented three research posters and represented the department in the Resident Bowl as part of the North Central Section. 

Beyond these highlighted accomplishments, many other faculty members, residents, and fellows actively participated in poster presentations and moderating panels. Together, these achievements demonstrate the Department of Urology’s ongoing commitment to excellence in research, education, and patient care—and its continued leadership on the national stage.
