We are thrilled to introduce the newest members of our urology residency program at the University of Minnesota Medical School. These talented individuals bring with them a wealth of enthusiasm, curiosity, and dedication to the field of urology. Please join us in giving them a warm welcome as they begin this exciting new chapter of their medical careers!
Amir Khan, MBBS, MPH
Dr. Amir Khan grew up in the mountainous region in Northern Pakistan, where early involvement in community health initiatives inspired his passion for making an impact through medicine and research. He earned his medical degree from Khyber Medical College in Peshawar, Pakistan, and later completed a Master’s in Public Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, where he furthered his interest in Urologic Surgery, Population Health, and Clinical Research.
Dr. Khan conducted clinical trials and translational research for four years in urologic oncology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Dr. Mohummad Minhaj Siddiqui’s lab, before starting his urology residency. In recognition of his commitment to global health and research, he received the Urology Care Foundation Humanitarian Award in 2024 through which he developed a national research training and mentorship initiative for urology trainees across Pakistan.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Khan enjoys spending time with his wife and son, MSK. He also enjoys traveling and hiking, with Shenandoah and Yosemite among his favorite national parks. His favorite song is The Nights by Avicii, his favorite movie is The Pursuit of Happiness, and his favorite sport is soccer.
Jake Ratanawong, MD
Dr. Jake Ratanawong is originally from Wausau, Wisconsin, and graduated from the University of Minnesota Medical School. During his medical training, he was selected for the Minneapolis VA's Longitudinal Undergraduate Medical Education (VALUE) Program, where he chose to spend his entire time in the urology clinic and OR. His cohort performed a QI study on intraoperative glucose monitoring in preventing surgical site infections and developed a new protocol that was adopted by the VA, which they presented at a regional conference. In his free time, Dr. Ratanawong enjoys playing guitar, soccer, and skiing.
Paige Wallner, MD
Dr. Paige Wallner grew up in Oakdale, Minnesota. She graduated from Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. While at Loyola, she served as President of Students Advising Students (SAS), an organization that partners with faculty and administration to provide mentorship in coursework, OSCEs, STEPs, and residency preparation for medical students. Outside of work, Dr. Wallner enjoys hiking, traveling, snowboarding, birdwatching, and sewing/embroidery.
Evan Walter, MD
Dr. Evan Walter is originally from Little Falls, Minnesota, and graduated from the University of Minnesota Medical School. During his medical training, he was selected to participate in the Rural Physician Associate Program (RPAP), a nine-month longitudinal integrated clerkship, with rotations including urologic surgery and advanced surgery and procedures. In his free time, Dr. Walter enjoys spending time outside skiing, hiking, biking, participating in water sports, and exploring national parks.
