Linden and Murugan are recognized as “Top Doctors”

LMP associate professor Michael Linden and assistant professor Paari Murugan were recognized as two of Mpls. St.Paul magazine’s “Top Doctors: Rising Stars” for 2020.  The list included 97 Medical School doctors across 18 departments.

The Medical School notes that to be selected, “Top Doctors: Rising Stars” candidates must have been fully licensed and in practice for 10 years or less. Each individual named to the list of “Top Doctors: Rising Stars” was chosen by peers in the field. All candidates are evaluated on numerous factors, including professional achievement, review by an expert panel, research and disciplinary history.

"As a hematopathologist, it is a privilege to work as part of a team to use our discipline's integrated approaches to arrive at precise diagnoses for patients with leukemia, lymphoma, MDS, and myeloma,” said Linden, LMP Director of Hematopathology.  “I am honored to be recognized by my peers as a Top Doctor."

Murugan is an anatomic pathologist whose area of expertise is in the surgical pathology of genitourinary and bone / soft tissue tumors.  “Outside of a small circle in the medical world, anatomic pathology is not understood as an interpretive specialty where establishing an accurate diagnosis, a critical component in guiding treatment decisions, rests squarely on the skill and expertise of the pathologist behind the microscope,” Murugan said. “In this context, being recognized as a Top Doctor, an uncommon honor for a physician without direct patient contact is indeed an inspirational and heartwarming token of appreciation from my colleagues across multiple specialties.   The gesture affirms the value and trust the clinicians have in our work and inspires me and my colleagues to contribute to our multidisciplinary care teams with greater gusto.” 

Murugan said the honor coincides with his forthcoming academic promotion, “underscoring the nurturing environment of our Medical School in supporting the growth of our faculty academically as well as clinically.”
