Diagnostic Radiology - RAD 7101

Clerkships are available at the University of Minnesota Medical Center and Hennepin County Medical Center.  At each hospital, students rotate through the different reading areas in the Department of Radiology with exposure to all the subspecialties of radiology.  Students not only gain experience in basic film interpretation but also guidance in choosing the most appropriate radiological examination for the patient.

Visiting student opportunities are also available for junior and senior medical students from other affiliated institutions.

Radiology Research - RAD 7110

This course initiates or extends the student's experience in medical research projects in radiologic related areas by providing the student with background and knowledge of radiology research and in-depth study of some aspect of radiology. This elective can be taken for credit for up to 8 weeks of research.

Acting Internship in Radiology - RAD 7600

Acting Internship in Radiology - RAD 7600

Acting Internship in Radiology is an elective taken after the Diagnostic Radiology elective. Students perform tasks in radiology similar to a first year radiology resident, such as dictating radiology reports, performing procedures under supervision and attending resident didactic lectures.

Interventional Radiology - RAD 7400

This clerkship is a 4-week rotation intended to give medical students a more in-depth exposure to one of the most exciting and innovative specialties in medicine. You will have a much greater exposure to the workup of patients prior to procedures and the informed consent process, and will get much more hands-on experience in performing procedures.

Acting Internship in Interventional Radiology - Rad 7700

The Acting Internship in Interventional Radiology is available to students after they have completed an Interventional Radiology Clerkship. Students will integrate into the Interventional Radiology Division within the Department of Radiology at the level of an intern or junior IR resident. Under the close supervision of the attendings and senior residents, they will present patients at the morning rounds, consent patients for their procedures, assist with or perform basic procedures, write post-procedure notes and orders, and follow up on patients. Students will also do rounds on inpatients and see outpatients in the clinic. Within this portion, they will take patients' history, perform exams, and discuss a management plan with attendings and senior residents.

Prerequisite: Rad 7400 - Interventional Radiology
