The Department of Radiology's mission is to continuously improve the health of the people of Minnesota and beyond, through innovative, high quality and effective patient care, education, and research, in the field of Radiology. The Department provides exceptional training in diagnostic radiology and its subspecialties, including breast imaging, gastrointestinal and genitourinary radiology, musculoskeletal radiology, neuroradiology, nuclear medicine, pediatric radiology, thoracic radiology, ultrasound, and vascular and interventional radiology.

The Department's education and clinical excellence is complemented by advanced research performed at the Center for Magnetic Resonance Research (CMRR). CMRR is home to the world's most advanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) instrumentation, complemented by a team of faculty and staff who provide unique expertise in imaging physics, engineering and signal processing. CMRR focuses on the development of unique MRI and spectroscopy methodologies and instrumentation. This work is utilized by researchers throughout the University to advance translational research, especially in the areas of neurosciences, cardiology and oncology.
