Faculty Spotlight: Christopher Hesh, MD
Dr. Christopher Hesh joined us as an Assistant Professor in the Division of Interventional Radiology in September 2023. He completed his radiology residency at Emory in Atlanta, followed by an adult IR fellowship at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago and a Pediatric IR fellowship at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
Drawn to the University of Minnesota by the opportunity to work with both children and adults, Dr. Hesh explains, “As I went through many specialty areas in medical school, the thing they all had in common is that I always wanted to work with kids. But I also wanted to be able to work with adults because I have a specific interest in disease processes, specifically venous and lymphatic conditions that span across a range of ages and provide many points and opportunities for treatment.”
Dr. Hesh is most passionate about treating patients with venous and lymphatic conditions and developing ways to treat some of the conditions that currently do not have adequate treatments available. Since coming to the University, he has been especially grateful to be able to work with Dr. Flanagan and other faculty that he can bounce ideas off of and learn from their experience.
Dr. Flanagan had these words to share about Dr. Hesh: "He has been a wonderful addition to the Division of Interventional Radiology and has stepped in and made a significant impact on the practice since his first days here. He brings a valuable perspective and approach to challenging cases, which is no doubt a result of his well-rounded training experience and voracious appetite for solving problems that require a creative but evidence-based solution. It took six years to find the right person who could offer IR care for pediatric and adult patients, and we are so happy Dr. Hesh joined our group. It was well worth the long wait! I am also particularly excited to have a partner who is focused on growing the pediatric IR practice to its full potential. ”
Originally from Alton, IL, Dr. Hesh and his wife, who is also a physician, are happy to be back in the Midwest. They are excited to have just purchased their first home in St. Paul, MN, where they live with their two children, ages 3 ½ and 15 months, their dog, and their cat.
