What is your favorite thing about training at UMN? The variety in training and patient population across training sites, the degree of autonomy, and the educational culture fostered by the faculty. 

What are your post residency interests/plans? Pursuing fellowship in pediatric neurosurgery and skull base.

What do you like to do outside of Residency? Yoga, crochet, spending time with my husband and dog (Rosa Guadalupe)

Anything else you'd like to add about yourself? Favorite thing about Minneapolis is the food scene.

What is your favorite thing about training at UMN? The collegiality and relationships you form with your co-residents and faculty; it truly feels like a family.

What are your post residency interests/plans? Fellowship in Stereotactic Functional and Epilepsy Surgery; I hope to join an academic practice that allows me to treat functional disorders, epilepsy, brain cancers, and traumatic brain injury with a variety of modalities and continue to research functional recovery for neurosurgical patients.

What do you like to do outside of Residency? Hiking; being outdoors; spending time with my husband, two girls, and dog; reading

Anything else you'd like to add about yourself? I love supporting students interested in pursuing Neurosurgery as a vocation; I especially love talking to women about navigating a time-demanding career with motherhood.

What are your post residency interests/plans? General neurosurgery at a Level I/II Trauma Center

What do you like to do outside of Residency? Spending time with my dogs, trying new restaurants, travel

What is your favorite thing about training at UMN? There's a deep history and wealth of expertise in a lot of different specialties here!

What are your post residency interests/plans? I'm interested in the research of functional and the technical aspects of spine.

What do you like to do outside of Residency? Outside the hospital you'll find me on a long trail run, at one of the many concert venues, or one of the many breweries in town.

What is your favorite thing about training at UMN? Resident camaraderie, early OR experience and independence

What are your post residency interests/plans? Currently leaning towards Neurotrauma/critical care for my subspecialty choice. Planning to stay at an academic center in long term.

What do you like to do outside of Residency? I am mainly interested in team sports. I have been competing in indoor and sand volleyball rec leagues for the past couple of years and played in a basketball rec league with the team we put together with residents from other specialties last year.

What is your favorite thing about training at UMN? I really enjoy the people I work with on a day to day basis. We work closely with the neurocritical care team for our ICU patients, and we’re lucky to have a shared workroom where we can bounce ideas off each other and work through complex clinical scenarios as a team. I’m also really appreciative of the nursing staff we have here, particularly in our neuro ICU and neuro floor unit. They really have our back and look out for the residents, especially when we’re newer and trying to find our footing. I’ve found lifelong friends and supporters here.

What are your post residency interests/plans? As a person with a computer programming and neuroscience background, I found my happy place in functional neurosurgery. I’m excited to get to be a part of the new era of neuromodulation. Ideally I hope my future practice involves getting to utilize neuromodulation for treatment resistant psychiatric disease - I really enjoy working with that patient population.

What do you like to do outside of Residency? During the beautiful Minnesota summer my wife and I love to take our son and our dog to different outdoor art shows and farmers markets, and explore the many parks in the Twin Cities. In the winter we’ll bundle up and walk to our neighborhood coffee shop, and then cozy up at home - my wife and I love to crochet, do cross stitch, and more recently I’ve learned to needle felt.

Anything else you'd like to add about yourself? I used to competitively surf in high school and college!

What is your favorite thing about training at UMN? My co-residents are my favorite part of training at UMN 

What are your post residency interests/plans? I am leaning towards doing general neurosurgery and going straight into practice after residency, though I am most interested in spine and tumor so I am still considering potential fellowship options

What do you like to do outside of Residency? I love spending time with my husband and our two dogs, exploring the many nearby parks, traveling, doing jigsaw puzzles
