Neurosurgery Department welcomes new Nurse Practitioner

Therese Maas, APRN, DNP, recently joined the Neurosurgery department with a primary focus on spinal conditions. “I enjoy interpreting and reviewing spine MRI imaging for patients to help them decipher the medical terms and language so they can develop a better understanding of their condition and determine the cause of their symptoms and pain,” she said.

Before coming to the University, Maas spent 10 years with Hennepin Healthcare in Minneapolis as a nurse practitioner in Neurosurgery, Traumatic Brain Injury, and most recently in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation on the acute inpatient rehabilitation unit.

Maas holds a Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree from the University of Minnesota and earned a Master of Arts in Nursing with an Adult Nurse Practitioner focus at what is now St. Catherine University in St. Paul. She also earned a BS in Nursing at Augsburg College in Minneapolis.

While at Hennepin Healthcare, Maas earned the Mild to Moderate TBI Program Service Excellence Award in 2012 for “Dedication to Superior Patient Care, Team Leadership, Program Development and Outreach to Service People Who Have Sustained a Traumatic Brain Injury.”

She was also a featured speaker during the 2012 National Brain Injury Association conference. Her topic: “Treatment of Mild Traumatic Brain Injury Using an Interdisciplinary Approach.”   

Maas enjoys spending time at her lake place up north, canoeing, boating, and playing golf.
